WigginsConcerto for Four Horns and Orchestra, Opus 93

“Wiggins’ Concerto for Four Horns was reviewed when it first appeared in the October 1992 issue of The Horn Call. It was commissioned by James Emerson and premiered by the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra in 1992. It is a very fine work with difficult solo horn writing for all four parts.

“Although it deserves regular performances, Schumann’s Conzertstuck and, to a lesser extent, Hubler’s Concerto for Four Horns, continue to overshadow its potential appeal.”

WigginsDialogues, Opus 96 (for Two Horns)

“There are three dialogues, each of which would make a good study piece for independent rhythm. Varities of quickly changing rhythmic groupings are encountered throughout. The horn parts are generally equal in tessitura and technique. Neither part goes below the treble clef, the second ascends to written b-flat“ and the first to c”’. These are difficult and probably more rewarding for the performers than the audience.”
