Ardell Hake received his BME and MME from Drake University, Iowa. Upon graduation, he became a member of the U.S. Air Force’s North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) Band and the NORAD Commanders Jazz Orchestra, serving as a staff arranger. He completed advanced study in composition and orchestration from Lyle Murphy and Albert Harris in Los Angeles, California.

      Mr. Hake is a composer/orchestrator who provides music for motion pictures, television programs and commercials as well as music for such animated series as The Chipmunks, The Wuzzles, The Gummi Bears and Sing-Me-A-Story. His contributions to television include music for A Team, Riptide and Hill Street Blues plus original music and arrangements for many television variety specials such as the Golden Globe Awards, the Comedy Awards Show, Ice Capades, Ice Follies and the Miss America Pageant.

      He has worked extensively in radio and television commercials for, among others, Nike, Southern Bell, Mattel Toys, McDonalds, Intel, Mazda and Ford Trucks. His motion picture and television orchestration credits include A River Runs Through It, Fire in the Sky, Nowhere to Run, Time Cop, Quiz Show, Miami Rhapsody, The Net and The Simpsons. Mr. Hake is also active in composing music for theme parks, including Universal Studios’ Earthquake and Phantom of the Opera Make-up Show (Orlando, Florida), Gardaland (Italy), and The Clark Quay Adventure (Singapore).

      Mr. Hake’s chamber music includes many works for string quartet, brass and woodwind quintet and other ensembles. The Los Angeles Times described a recent performance of his Studies for Chamber Orchestra as “crafty and enjoyable.”
